Chalet Society presents
Ateliers des Testeurs / The Testers’ Salon
How can we define a space by shooting arrows with a bow? Is it possible to take more than 5 minutes to open a kitchen cabinet drawer ? How to carry an exhibition on one’s head ? How to interpret on the piano a score written on the bases of music listening? What equipment should we use to experiment with multiple points of view of the same work? What does it mean to test something? The Atelier des Testeurs invites you to join them and find answers to all these and many other questions during the Testers Salon that will take place from September 25th to 29th at the Chalet Society in Paris.
The concept of « test » is at the very heart of the Chalet Society, a new initiative by Marc-Olivier Wahler. After having tested the limits of a commonly accepted notion of artist with the Museum of Everything exhibition, the Chalet Society invites Atelier des Testeurs, a project designed by Christophe Kihm, Arnaud and Bertrand Dezoteux.
The Atelier des Testeurs is a space open to young artists and theoreticians where they can carry out tests, i.e. challenge intuitions, evaluate and compare skills, develop techniques, and redefine forms. A test differs from an ordinary experience because it uses a specific framework, delimited by a protocol and motivated by a goal or research. Thus, a test is always performed according to specific rules and tests for something in particular.
The Testers’ Salon will present tests and not artworks, dedicated principally to the exhibition formats. This will aim to test forms, spaces, discourses, and protocols, in order to investigate new possibilities of exhibition.

The Chalet Society is a project designed to encourage new reflection on the contemporary art institution. Its mobile structure endeavours to develop formats that work on a variety of platforms, similarly to software capable of working with any hardware.
The Chalet Society reacts to the boldest artistic settings and acts as a community space for artists, collectors, researchers, and other enthusiasts searching for “poetic consciousness” – an idea developed by Saul Wahl Katzenellenbogen, King of Poland crowned in 1587. He reigned for only one night, but it was sufficient time to pronounce several predictions and call for the dawn of poetic consciousness.
The Chalet Society has taken over a unique site in Paris: a 1000m² abandoned school provided by the Emerige Group and Laurent Dumas, its Founding Chairman and committed collector.
Launched in October 2012, the Chalet Society attracted over 65,000 visitors to an exhibition of the Museum of Everything. The exhibition brought together a variety of extraordinary self-taught and/or unknown artists. It revealed a facet of artistic creation that has been growing for a century outside artistic institutions.
From October 24th to January 24th, the Chalet Society invites Californian artist Jim Shaw to exhibit his personal archives, the main source of his inspiration – a chance to dive into an overflowing and illuminated world that recycle the myths and beliefs of America and beyond.
